Marijuana is commonly rolled in paper and smoked as a joint or in a pipe. When smoked Marijuana has a strong smell that is very distinct, sweet and sour odor. It is also smoked in blunts, which is when the tobacco inside a cigar is emptied out and refilled with marijuana. To a smaller extent it is mixed into foods or brewed as a tea. When marijuana is in a concentrated resinous form it is called hashish and as a sticky black liquid hash oil. Marijuana use can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty in thinking and problem solving, and problem with learning and memory. It can impact learning and memory for days even weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off. As a result, someone who smokes marijuana every day may be functioning at a suboptimal intellectual level all of the time. |
Several studies have shown a direct link between frequent marijuana use and a higher rate of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and schizophrenia. There is also evidence that the earlier that marijuana is used the more chance of problems later on in life.
