Psychiatric Treatment Options
14 September 2009
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who has pursued specialized training in how the mind works, what affects the mind, and how the mind affects who you are. A psychiatrist can:
- Assess and diagnose psychiatric and psychological illness
- Order medical tests to rule out other medical causes of the psychiatric symptoms
- Do psychotherapy (or talk therapy)
- Prescribe psychiatric medications (like anti-depressants) to help alleviate life-interfering symptoms
- Recommend other treatments such as light therapy and other holistic or spiritual options
Sometimes people need inpatient psychiatric care when their symptoms are dangerous or their functioning is very disrupting to their life and relationships.
Call us at 877.562.2565 ext. 102 or 103 and one of our Care Guides will assess your situation, answer your questions, and get back to you about what treatment options would work best for you.
